Brief Biographical Sketch:

Hi! My name is Nikhil Dharmaraj (he/him/his), and I'm a sophomore jointly concentrating in History & Literature (Modern World Track) and Computer Science, with a secondary degree in South Asian Studies at Harvard College. I am passionate about issues at the intersection of technology/artificial intelligence and radical, decolonial justice, with a particular eye towards South Asia. Outside of school, I'm really involved with Harvard South Asian Association (SAA), Harvard Ghungroo, and the Harvard Task Force for Asian Progressive Advocacy & Studies (TAPAS). Additionally, I’ve had the incredible opportunity to work on campus — as a Peer Advising Fellow (PAF) a member of the teaching staff for CS50, and an interdisciplinary student researcher through the Radcliffe Institute & Harvard College Research Program. Excited to meet you all!

S80: Critical Debates and Perspectives on Decolonizing Science & Technology in Splash Spring 2021 (Apr. 17 - 18, 2021)
In recent years, discussions surrounding decolonization of science and technology have surfaced as scientific research and innovation advances. Imperialist ideologies are prevalent in our understandings of science today, and it has contributed to ongoing oppression towards marginalized communities of color across the globe. In this seminar, we will critically engage with these debates, looking at examples in global health and artificial intelligence. The session will include a number of interactive activities, including a brainstorming period for students to find a contemporary issue related to these topics. We will all discuss these questions together and embrace the diversity of perspectives — no prior experience or knowledge of the topic is necessary whatsoever. Just come with an interest and excitement to learn!
